After her niece’s (Rebecca Grace Van Fraassen) diagnosis with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) in 2001, Louise founded the Rebecca Run for SMA to fund cure and treatment research. With her team of more than 100 volunteers, Louise works tirelessly to raise awareness of SMA and research dollars. Since 2001 this event, along with the Angel Gala for SMA has raised more than $1.4million. In June 2007 SMA researchers announced they had commenced a human trail with a compound so promising, in the mice-testing stage it eradicated all symptoms of disease. This is a VERY exciting time for SMA and medicine in general.
